traffic woes

Today I was going to go buy some stuff with my Dad. When we were trying to get on to Stud Rd there was too much south-bound traffic, so I decided to turn left with the intention of making a U-turn at the freeway entrance. I went into the turning lane for the freeway and there was a truck who had gone ahead of the line, waiting for oncoming traffic to pass despite there being a red arrow. When the coast was clear he U-turned. There was a lot of traffic on the on-ramp for the freeway, and the Stud-Heatherton section of the freeway was jamming.

We waited for a while, but our arrow never went green. The car in front of us turned anyway, when it was clear. A few minutes later some of the cars on the on-ramp (towards Warragul) turned around and came back to Stud Road, despite the one way-ness of the ramp. After about 4 rounds of traffic light changing I too jumped the lights, and so did the car after me. Some of the cars behind us cut across the median strip.

yes this was actually caused by an oil spill on the Monash between Stud and Heatherton roads
